ABOUT ABOUT

For the second year On Location: Memphis has commissioned a Memphis Visual Artist to create an original piece to represent the festival.  This year Sir Walt and Marino Joyner-Wilson joined forces to create the 2016 OL:M Reel Art Piece.  Join OL:M, Sir Walt and Marino at one of Memphis' finest art galleries, Art Village Gallery, for the unvealing of this year's original piece.  This Reel Art will hang with the 2015 OL:M Reel Art Piece in the gallery for thirty days after the unvealing.

We will also screen the OL:M Shorts Festival Winners in the gallery's screening room.  During the first three Tuesdays in July, the Hard Rock Cafe Memphis night's audience chose the winner among short films that screened in the categories of Live Action, Animation and Documentary shorts. Thus far the winners are as follows:

Live Action: How I Got Made - In 1981, young Gaby learns lessons about loyalty, the movies and family. She puts these new skills to work in a unique way as she helps her younger brother defeat the school bully after watching “The Godfather” with their Dad.

Animation: Natural Attraction - This short film shows a natural spectacle, turning a sparse, dry landscape into a fruitful place bearing new life. The interplay between sky and earth reminds of a sensual love act to express the dependency and perfect correlation of both elements.

Documentary: Floatin Down South - September 2015 three artists, two from The Netherlands and one from Seale, Alabama, built a Pirate Raft with found and salvaged materials on the base of an old pontoon boat. They floated southwards on the Chattahoochee and Apalachicola Rivers to the Gulf of Mexico. It took them eight days….A fourth firned, a filmer from the Netherlands, directed and filmed the trip and he made a ‘river movie’.

So, come to the Art Village Gallery and enjoy visual art, films, music, wine, and light refreshments.  This is Reel Art.
